With 40 years of telecommunications in Quebec as its backdrop, Leading The Wave presents André Chagnon’s exciting, groundbreaking journey to becoming the founder of Videotron.

How did a man who was born during the Great Depression in Montreal North become the founder of a major corporation? And how did an ordinary cable operator with 80 clients in 1964 revolutionize telecommunications in Quebec? Leading the wave is the story of André Chagnon’s exciting journey to becoming the founder of Videotron. Through the use of original testimonies and stunning archive footage, this feature-length documentary presents the portrait of a thriving society, inspired by the slogan “Maîtres chez nous” (masters in our own home), by retracing the evolution of the television industry by retracing the evolution of the television industry to understand how it came to be in Quebec. At the core of this documentary is a man—a leader and a visionary—who’s had his share of setbacks, hardships and losses, but who’s been driven by a firm belief that anything is possible.
